Conversion architecture
Start with the complete input envelope, not the nominal supply. Buck, boost and buck-boost architectures answer different requirements. Isolation and energy-flow direction must be established before selecting devices.

- Control-loop response and layout-sensitive EMI
Define the operating envelope
Capture supply limits, load profiles, environment and fault requirements before committing to a device or topology. For automotive and industrial systems, the nominal bus voltage is only one part of that specification.
- Document minimum, maximum and transient input conditions
- Separate continuous load, peak demand and startup inrush
- Set measurable requirements for ripple, temperature and fault recovery
From architecture to review
Use the architecture to identify component stresses, layout-sensitive current paths and validation priorities. A design review should make assumptions explicit and distinguish analysis from measured evidence.
- Review device limits against the whole operating envelope
- Identify thermal and EMI risks before board layout
- Agree test conditions and acceptance criteria before evaluation
